Birmingham based manufacturer Warrior Doors has bid to raise £10,000, in partnership with Queen Elizabeth’s hospital, in order to support isolated COVID-19 patients. A recent donation made a massive difference to one patient who was given a radio.

Brett Barratt, Managing Director at Warrior Doors, decided to support patients at Queen Elizabeth's Hospital in Birmingham after his daughter Esther stressed her concern of the lack of interaction COVID patients were receiving.

Esther has worked on the respiratory ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for the past 8 years, and due to the virus, can only visit patients for a short amount of time. This goes for all doctors and nurses who are only allowed to visit to provide essential care.

Therefore patients who do not have contact with their families, are often left on their own without any interaction. This especially concerns older patients who have almost no contact with anyone and aren't able to use modern mobiles.

The firm has already raised over £2,000 for the cause and donated numerous radios and books.

One gentleman on the respiratory ward in an isolated room at the Queen Elizabeth’s hospital in Birmingham was given a radio. Delighted to have received the device, he turned it on and decided to get up and have a dance with Esther whilst he was feeling well enough.

The next day the gentleman felt extremely ill needing a lot of oxygen, unfortunately he passed away a few days later.

Whilst many businesses are working tirelessly to produce PPE for the frontline sector, donations from Warrior Doors have made massive differences to isolated patients with COVID-19. Brett said:

“Imagine, that may have been his last dance Only possible because someone donated a radio.”
